Ambon Jazz Plus Festival (AJPF) is not just an annual event but also a major part of a project for the advancement of generations. AJPF is a vehicle to bring the performing arts to Maluku; with the main aim is to generate enough funds to build the related education infrastructures – Amboina Art & Science Academy (AASA) for future generations to come. We believe that the spirit of the industry of art & science is in this region of South East Asia.
AJPF started last year (2009) on the 9, 10 and 11 of October, with more that 120 national and international musicians participated. The word “Plus” in the name of the event means that it is more than just Jazz music that are welcome. It is also Hip – hop, R&B, Soul, Gospel and World beat. Michael Sembello, Wilkins, Nikky Manuputty, Benny Likumahua, Titi & Akshan Syuman, Saykoji, Soul ID, Massada, Berry Likumahua, ROCK Ensemble were just the few of many participants, and they all have stated their desire to return for the sequel.
AJPF 2009 was also chose by the central Government as the opening program for World Peace Day event in Ambon where the final day was the inauguration of the world’s thirty-fourth World Peace Gong Monument, 20 November 2009.
Art & Music are the soul of the people of Maluku and integrated strongly in their culture and daily living. Therefore, a festival in this magnitude is the right choice to do it in Ambon, the City of Music of Indonesia.
This year Voorale Multimedia Corporation (PT. Global Solusindo Perkasa) is morally obligated to continue the saga to meet the main objective of the project; moreover based on popular demand from both the central and regional Government and the people of Maluku. With the up and coming SAIL BANDA 2010 event, VMC hopes that AJPF 2010 will enhance the efforts of the central and regional Government to excite and push the Tourism industry of Maluku.
Last year Ambon received the honor of having the “World Peace Gong“ monument placed in the center of the city. Therefore, Ambon is now the city of Peace in the Eastern hemisphere of Indonesia. It is a perfect place where G2G through multilateral diplomatic relation between Indonesia and friendly nations can utilize Ambon as the future region to establish long lasting peaceful relationship; and further it as P2P multilateral communication through Art, Music and Science.
Living As One is the tag line for this year’s project, which means within the diverse of nations, art, music and science; people can live as one yet progressing interdependently. Ambon is to become the annual meeting place to keep that fire of diversity and unity, continue for many generations to come.
